Dear Residents of Johannesburg,
On Thursday, 20 October 2022, I was removed as the Whip of Council by an unfounded motion of no confidence, at the 11th Extra-Ordinary Council Meeting.
Subsequent to my interview with eNCA this afternoon, the motion was baseless as it failed to give a single reason as to why the Council has lost confidence in my leadership of Office since November 2021. It was unfortunate that this was not questioned in Council – so why was I removed?
During my tenure, together with my efficient Office, I have performed my functions not only to the best of my ability, but within the mandate as the Whip of Council.
This included, inter alia, liaising with the different political parties to ensure representation in council and council committees, maintaining sound relations between the various political parties, facilitating the interaction between the executive and legislative oversight structures in the municipality, resolving disputes and dealing with Councillor complaints.
It is unfortunate that the good work that my Office has rendered has come to an abrupt halt, all in the name of corruption of politicking.
Our work as Councillors should speak for itself. The same dedication, effective and efficient work I diligently perform daily in my Ward 23 as Councillor, is the same effort I have put into my Office as the Whip of Council.
I am appreciative of the hard work my team of staff have put in to make a visible change as per the mandate guided by the Municipal Structures Act of Local Government.
My service to the City of Johannesburg does not stop here. I will continue making a difference and fighting against corruption.
